The 18th annual Big Island Woodturners Exhibit opens this evening at Wailoa Center in Hilo.
A “meet the artist reception” will be held 5-7 p.m. this evening at the gallery. The free exhibit is open to the public 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday through March 31.
Woodturning will be demonstrated from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, and March 12, 19 and 26. This Saturday will feature Mark Stebbins and Dennis Hakes; March 12 will feature Gene Short and Kelly Dunn; March 19 will feature Doug Leite, John Mydock and Dennis Hakes; and March 26 will feature Jacqui Marlin and Tai Lake.
Each Saturday there will also be a side table set up with Mydock conducting a “Show and Tell Pyrography” demonstration on a vessel.
The Big Island Woodturners Club is a nonprofit dedicated to educating its members and the public about woodturning. It holds meetings every other month and hosts visiting demonstrators, an annual exhibit, and free public woodturning demonstrations.
